Assalam-o-Alaikum friends!

Today we are going to talk about a very deep and touching reality. The more sins we commit, the more troubles come into our lives. But those who protect themselves from sins, Allah Ta’ala grants them peace in their lives. Remember, when a person leaves sins, he gets such peace as a child gets in his mother’s lap. So leave sins and turn to Allah.

This beautiful talk teaches us that committing sins with knowledge and intention is greatly disliked by Allah. If a sin happens due to ignorance or forgetfulness, it is quickly forgiven. But when a person knowingly and intentionally commits sin, it brings the anger of Allah Rabbul Izzat. Yet Allah is very Forbearing (Haleem), Generous (Kareem), and Patient. He does not punish immediately on the first sin. He gives chance after chance. But when a person keeps committing sins without waking up, Allah sends troubles so that the person gets worried and turns back to Him.

The Connection Between Sins and Troubles

A wise person once said beautifully: “Pleasures make you sleep, but sorrows wake you up.”

Allah sends grief, illness, failure, difficulties to wake the servant. Good people, when troubles come, turn towards their Lord. They start praying more, perform Tahajjud, engage in remembrance and supplications. They understand that Allah is calling them towards Himself. SubhanAllah! Allah is Pure – He binds His servants in chains of difficulties and still calls them to His door.

But many times we do not wake up; instead, we commit more sins. Business fails due to dishonesty, so we take interest-based loans from the bank – a solution that brings even more trouble. The main principle is: Disobedience to Allah brings troubles, hardships, humiliation, failures into life. When we leave them, success comes in this world and the Hereafter.

The Reward of Leaving Sins Knowingly

Whoever leaves sin with knowledge and firm intention, Allah stops rejecting his prayers. He becomes one whose supplications are accepted. What greater reward can there be? Leave sins and see what Allah grants!

For example, the one who lowers his gaze from non-mahram, Allah grants the sweetness of worship in his heart. For every sin left behind, a pleasure is given in return. People say today that they feel nothing in worship or azkar. Brother, the point is not feeling pleasure – the point is to do servitude. We are Abdullah (slave of Allah), not Abdul-Lutf (seeker of pleasure). Pleasure is Allah’s gift, His mercy. We are bound to obey. If we leave sins, Allah removes troubles from life.

Difference Between Troubles on the Righteous and Sinners

Troubles come to both righteous and sinners, but the difference is big:

  • On sinners, troubles come as punishment for sins – the heart becomes restless.
  • On the righteous, Allah sends troubles to raise their ranks – ranks they could not reach by effort alone. Troubles become a means to bring them closer to Allah.

Hazrat Mujaddid (Rahmatullah) said that great progress happens in the state of “Qabz” (when the heart feels dry and no spiritual taste), yet the person stays attached to worship. Troubles come to lift the righteous higher. Troubles come to Allah’s friends, but restlessness does not. Their hearts remain peaceful. Just like someone sitting in a glass room while a storm rages outside – he sees the wind, trees falling, but feels nothing inside.

A beautiful example: An elder was searching for kafan (shroud) clothes on his son’s wedding day. His wife asked why. He said, “My heart tells me my son will pass away soon.” And truly, while the groom was mounting the horse for the baraat, he slipped, fell, and died. The world was preparing the bridegroom, but he was preparing for death. “I am pleased with whatever pleases my Lord.” SubhanAllah!

Three Important Things to Remember

  1. No one is free from grief in this world. Grief ends only in Jannah.
  2. Allah’s blessings are much more – health more than sickness, ease more than hardship. Trials are few, favors are many.
  3. When trial comes, stay pleased with Allah. “Pleasure of the Beloved moment by moment – I am pleased with this too, O my Lord!”

In difficulty, do not go to amulets, black magic, astrologers, or fortune-tellers. Go to the mosque, pour out your heart to Allah. When we tell our sorrow to Allah, He accepts our plea.

Our troubles are caused by our sins, not by people. No one has tied us – only One has the power to tie and untie. Turn to Him and troubles will end.

The Path of Repentance and Allah’s Mercy

When a servant does not wake up despite warnings, Allah’s anger comes and He sends punishment. But sincere repentance saves. Falling is not bad; staying fallen is bad. If you slip, immediately seek forgiveness with a true heart. Cry to Allah: “Save me from sins, do not give me the chance of sin.”

Rabi’a Basriya used to pray: “O Allah, who prevents the sky from falling on earth, prevent Shaytan from overpowering me.”

Allah’s mercy is so vast that Shaytan swore to mislead from every side, but Allah swore twice by His Honor and Majesty to accept repentance. Rahman and Rahim – two names for the attribute of mercy. No other attribute has two names.

A girl once said: Convincing a mother is the easiest thing in the world. Even if angry, a mother keeps checking through her daughter if her son has eaten, if his bed is made. When the child cries, no mother can bear it – she wipes the tears and forgives. If a mother forgives so easily, then convincing Allah is 70 times easier. Just feel regret in the heart, become ashamed, call Him silently – Allah forgives without any movement of hand or tongue.

Ibn Qayyim’s incident: A child was beaten and thrown out by his mother. He left crying but returned to the doorstep saying, “I can find everything else, but not another mother.” He slept on the threshold. When the mother opened the door, she embraced him and forgave. Likewise, when a sinner returns to Allah’s door saying, “Forgive my mistakes, save me from door-to-door humiliation,” Allah accepts.

Conclusion

Friends, make a firm intention today: We seek sincere forgiveness for all sins committed till now, and we resolve to live a life of righteousness and God-consciousness ahead. Leave sins, do true tawba, and see how Allah’s mercy beautifies our hearts.
